A black dot is not automatically a dead pixel.

Short answer

A sharp point that stays dark on white and primary colors may be a dead pixel/subpixel. A fuzzy or irregular mark may be dust, debris, damage, or contamination.

What to look for

  • Clean the surface gently before testing.
  • Inspect or temporarily remove a removable screen protector if safe.
  • A mark caused by the screen itself will not appear in a normal screenshot.
  • Lines, clusters, cracks, or spreading ink-like areas need service—not a pixel fixer.

Use this order

  1. Open white and observe the shape.
  2. Run RGB to test the subpixels.
  3. Use black to check whether it actually emits light.
  4. Confirm with the device’s own test.
