TV screen test

Test from normal viewing distance—then confirm with the TV itself.

Short answer

Use black, white, RGB, and gray to locate a point or patch. For OLED retention or persistent dots, prefer the manufacturer’s built-in picture test and maintenance guidance.

What to look for

  • Inspect at normal brightness and normal seating distance before moving close.
  • Use gray for broad uniformity or dirty-screen patterns; pixel fixers are not for patches.
  • A connected computer browser cannot replace the TV’s built-in self-test.
  • Do not repeatedly run manual pixel cleaning beyond manufacturer instructions.

Use this order

  1. Open the quick test in the TV browser or connected device.
  2. Check black, white, RGB, then gray.
  3. Run the TV’s built-in picture/self-diagnostic.
  4. For OLED, follow the exact model’s maintenance instructions.
  5. Photograph persistent defects and check coverage.
